Our Story
In 2016 the Regehr family was blessed to be introduced to Tirzah Children and Community Development Association (an Ethiopian NGO). Since then the Regehr's have been the main providers of financial support to Tirzah as it executes its mission of helping children in Ethiopia.
Originally, Tirzah had tremendous success in feeding needy children and help families become self-sufficient through the purchase of livestock that could be used for nutrition and revenue. From our conversations with local government officials, and the leader of Tirzah it was decided that the best next step would be to open a school for children that provided both nutrition and education.
In 2018 we began a Joint Venture with Tirzah. Through this Joint Venture a school was acquired, and renovated. In September 2018 a school for 200 children was open. The school is free for the children to attend and also provides a full-year nutrition program for the students. Student selection gives preference to double orphans then orphans, and then fills the remaining vacancies via advisement from the local Women’s and Children’s Affair Office that focus on selecting children who do not have the financial means to pursue an education. Additionally, the school generates numerous jobs in the communities including teachers, cooks, guards, and administration.
Our next phase is focused on growing the number of students, and also using the kitchen area to expand the nutrition program to children who are not students. We are in continual communication with Tirzah and other local partners to determine the best way to execute our current program and have the most impact in the future.
